Madeleine Weitzner is the Inpatient and Outpatient Endocrine Medicine Obesity and Bariatric Surgery Program Lead Dietitian at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. She provides comprehensive nutrition care for pediatric patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Madeleine develops and implements individualized nutrition plans, conducts nutrition assessments, and provides ongoing education and support to patients and their families. Additionally, Madeleine contributes to research with focuses on the intersections of Bariatrics, Obesity Medicine, Mental Healthcare, and Eating Disorders.

MS in Nutrition Alumni Update- Madeleine Weitzner '21

Sara graduated from MSU Denver’s Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program in December 2021 and went on to complete MSU Denver’s Dietetic Internship program in May 2023. She now works at St. Anthony North Hospital as a PRN Dietitian Nutritionist. Sarah highlights that multidisciplinary healthcare is a fascinating field to be a part of. She has learned so much about different disease states and their nutritional implications from listening to nurses, doctors, and other specialists who are also caring for the patients she sees.

Kendall Discenza, MS, is a Spring 2023 graduate of the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program. Throughout her time at MSU Denver, she was heavily involved in the Auraria Campus Student Dietetic Association and the Eating Disorder Awareness Group. Kendall also worked as a dietary technician throughout the program where she applied skills learned within the classroom. Kendall successfully matched to a dietetic internship for the 2023-2024 year as a Sodexo Dietetic Intern, Chicago Region.

Leah Kerrigan is a Clinical Registered Dietitian and a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. The center, which is part of the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine, is renowned for its commitment to providing cutting-edge services for individuals with type 1 diabetes. As part of her role at the Barbara Davis Center, Leah works in the Pediatric Clinic, where she counsels and educates patients and their families on various aspects of managing type 1 diabetes. Her role includes providing guidance on Medical Nutrition Therapy, diabetes technology such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors, weight control, and blood sugar management through exercise.
